1.The average life of heating element is about 10 years
2.There is a thermistor bulit-in the flood switch in GE dishwasher that signals the controller board as to the water temperature.The controller board uses it to read and turn the heater circuit on or off. If thermistor failure may not allow the heating element to cycle.
P.S.:When taking the old float control switch for ge dishwasher out, be careful with the electrical connector
