Home Canning Instructions

Preparation:

• Inspect jars, lids, and bands; discard damaged parts.
• Clean with hot, soapy water. Keep jars warm to avoid breakage. Never heat jars in the oven.

Processing Jars:

• Fill warm jars with food, maintaining headspace per recipe.
• Wipe rims, seal lids finger-tight. Avoid overtightening.
• Release air bubbles with a plastic utensil (not needed for jams/jellies).

Waterbath Canning:

• Submerge jars in 180°F water, covered by 1 inch.
• Boil per recipe time, adjusting for altitude.
• Cool jars for 24 hours. CAUTION: Jars will be hot. Do not retighten bands.
• Check seals; store in a cool, dark place. Lids are single-use.

Pressure Canning:

• Follow manufacturer instructions. Refer to Waterbath Canning for cooling.
