It takes one second to check and it keeps your fingers safe. Some users find it mildly inconvenient, but we built it that way on purpose. The 24mm cutting depth is measured without the plastic guard. With the guard attached (which we recommend for safety), you get 22.5mm. That's still plenty for 3/4" materials and most 18mm rebar. The included three blades are good for getting started. For heavy cutting on ceramic tile or thick metal, pick up a dedicated diamond or ferrous metal blade in the 3-inch / 3/8" arbor size.
