I. Setting up the Embroidery Hoop

Place the embroidery fabric over the inner hoop, with the patterned side facing upwards. Then, place the outer hoop over the inner hoop and tighten the screws slowly until the fabric is completely taut against the hoop. The fabric should make a drumming sound when lightly tapped.

II. Threading the Needle


Insert the needle threader from the tip of the punch needle to the top. Thread the yarn through the loop of the threader, and pull the threader to pull the yarn through. Then, thread the yarn through the hole at the needle tip, leaving a 3-5 cm tail.

III. Starting Punch Needle Embroidery


Inserting the Needle: The bevel of the punch needle should face forward, in the direction you want to punch. Insert the needle from the front of the fabric, pulling the thread tail to the back. After inserting the needle, the needle tip should be fully inserted into the fabric, and each insertion should be a firm push followed by a gentle pull.


Stitch Spacing and Movement: The stitch spacing should be between four and five fabric squares. When pulling the needle out and moving forward, the needle tip should remain close to the fabric surface. Do not lift the needle too high when pulling it out, to avoid pulling the thread out of the fabric.


Filling Order: First, punch a circle along the outline of the design, then fill in the inside. At the end or in curved areas, you can rotate the punch needle or the embroidery hoop.

IV. Changing Thread and Finishing


Changing Thread: When the thread is almost used up, finish the stitch and re-thread the needle. To finish a stitch, press the needle tip with your finger to secure the thread before pulling the entire needle out, then cut the thread.


Trimming Thread Ends: After finishing the embroidery, trim the longer thread ends on the back. Any protruding threads can be pushed back in with the tip of the punch needle.
