Created by Craig Stecyk in 1983, the "Rat Bones Band" graphic represented a different type of art direction for Powell-Peralta. Previously images of skulls and dragons illustrated by VCJ had dominated the line up. The "Vato Rat" as it was named came from Stecyks past Dogtown days when he tagged walls and surfboards with the image.
