Cremation urns for human ashes should do two things: hold a loved one securely, and be something the family can live with. This INTAJ urn is carved by hand from solid sheesham, the Indian rosewood, with the Tree of Life cut into the front panel. Its natural colour runs from golden to deep brown with darker streaks, and no two pieces match exactly. Choosing The Right Size Allow about one cubic inch for each pound of healthy body weight, and check the weight or volume on the crematorium slip before you order. Sizes below are outside measurements (height x width x depth). Keepsake, 20 cu in, 5 x 3 x 3 in: a shared portion of adult ashes, or an infant, a cat or a small dog. Medium, 115 cu in, 8.5 x 5 x 5 in: a petite adult, a child or a large dog. Large, 180 cu in, 9.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 in: most adults up to about 180 lb. X-Large, 250 cu in, 11.25 x 6.25 x 6.25 in: adults up to about 250 lb. XX-Large, 640 cu in, 14 x 7.5 x 7.5 in: our largest size. How It Opens The bottom panel slides out once the single screw that holds it is loosened with a small screwdriver. Slide it back and tighten the screw to keep the ashes secure at home, in transit, in burial or in a columbarium niche. A funeral home can transfer the ashes in minutes. What Arrives One urn with its screw-locked base, supplied plain with no engraving. Families choose it as a memorial for a mother, father or grandparent, as a sympathy gift, and as a resting place for a much-loved dog or cat. Dust with a soft dry cloth.
