Key Notes for Marine Use: 1.Corrosion Protection: Constructed with carbon steel and pre-treated with anti-rust coating, the struts may still rust when exposed to saltwater for long periods. For permanent marine applications, an additional protective coating is recommended, or you can choose our stainless steel version instead. 2.Bracket Maintenance: The standard L-brackets work well under normal use. However, saltwater corrosion and hull vibration at sea can shorten their service life, so regular inspection and maintenance are advised. 3.Mounting Screws: Mounting screws are sold separately. Please select the appropriate screws based on your boat hatch material (wood/fiberglass/aluminum). The specific screw size to use depends on your actual installation application: For wooden frames such as camper beds, you can choose 3/8" lag bolts (equivalent to M10 metric size), or alternatively 5/16" machine screws with washers (equivalent to M8 metric size) — a length of 1.5-2 inches is recommended for both. For metal mounting surfaces, 5/16" bolts with nuts (equivalent to M8 metric size) are required, and washers must be used to distribute the load. Based on feedback from most customers, 3/8" lag bolts are the best match for this gas strut. For heavy-duty installation applications, we recommend upgrading to steel bolts with washers to prevent bracket bending. Does it come with installation instructions?
