Material - By adding 5-8% cobalt to a general 6542 high-speed steel thread plug tap, hand taps with cobalt can have higher hardness(67-68HRC) and precision, better wear resistance and toughness, and higher heat resistance. The surface is coated with TiCN (Dark Silver Black), which has higher hardness and better wear resistance than TiN coating (Gold).
Feature - The main advantages of plug taps is that they are easy to use for through-holes, but provide a more complete set of threads than taper taps. The straight flutes provide fast downward chip removal for efficient threading.
