The thickness of the foam pad is adjusted to give a soft surface and also prevent burning of the table or bed surface. The silicone rubber mat attached to the right hand corner allows you to put down your hot iron flat rather than vertical which considerably eases the movement. It completely eliminates the need of having an ironing board taking up your valuable space, so you can get rid of your existing board also.
