MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN LOW DWELLING A cruck or crook frame was a structural system popular in medieval Europe and especially Britain. It consisted of two naturally curved timbers that were propped against each other to form an A shaped frame. Multiple frames would be secured together using horizontal timbers to form the main structural support of the building.These frames would be used to hold up a roof of thatch or shingle. The gaps between the frames would be filled with wood, brick or wattle and daub. Our cruck house kit allows you to build a typical single storeyed peasant dwelling with a simple rectangular floor plan. Amenities are few with just a simple pig toilet at one end. The roof was originally of thatch but was upgraded sometime later using timber shingles. The side walls are timber framed with A frame. The door is openable, the pig toilet lid can be lifted and the entire roof is designed to be lifted up to allow you to peep inside. Environmentally responsible wood based material has been used in the manufacture of this kit. The paint used in this kit is non-toxic and safe to handle.
