How to install the J-bolt post hinge successfully:
- Mark Drilling Position: Mark the spot on the post where you will install the hinge and drill a hole completely through. Ensure that the position is aligned with the female strap hinge on the gate and that the J-bolt is vertical for proper alignment.
- Drill the Holes: Drill a hole through the post at the marked position. This should be slightly larger than the diameter of the J-bolt to allow for adjustment.
- Insert the J-bolt: Feed the J-Bolt through the drilled hole. Make sure that the J-shaped end is facing the correct way (usually downwards, depending on your gate setup).
- Secure with Nuts and Washers: Place washers and nuts on both sides of the post. Tighten the nuts enough to secure the J-Bolt in place, allowing for some adjustment.
- Adjust and Finalize: Align the J-bolt with the female strap hinge on the gate. Adjust the nuts to position the J-bolt precisely. Once aligned, fully tighten both nuts to secure the hinge firmly to the post.
