Description

1" Thick Weld Test Plate Set beveled to 22.5 degrees per plate for a total of 45 degree grove. 2" Wide by 1/4 thick backing strip with run-off tabs. 4" Wide (each plate) with 22.5 degre (+/- 3 degrees) bevels on both sides 6" Height on Both Plates Unit is assembled and ready to weld

Plates are welded to the backing strip on each of the 4 corners on the back. We DO NOT weld the backing strip across the middle of the back like some vendors do. This prevents the tacks from potentially interfering with the test strips that the weld inspector will cut from the plate for testing.

Included in assembled unit: (2) Weld Plates, 4"x6"x1" with 22.5 degree bevel on both sides (1) Backing strip 2" x 1/4" Welded with a 1/4" by 45 degree root gap.

Our bevel gap is set to 1/4" which adheres to the AWS D-1.1 Figure 6.16 Code. If you desire a different sized weld-gap, please send us a message for a custom order.

This 1” Thickness AWS D1.1 Weld Qualification (Unlimited Thickness) Test Plate is a professional-grade, fully assembled A-36 steel test coupon designed for welder qualification and certification testing, training programs, and welding procedure qualification practice. Built for accuracy and reliability, it allows instructors, inspectors, and fabricators to conduct proper performance testing that meets AWS D1.1 weld geometry requirements. Each unit is manufactured and assembled in the USA by PennWelding, ensuring consistent quality and dependable results. The heavy-duty steel construction provides realistic testing conditions and is suitable for single-use certification or training exercises. This product is ideal for individuals training to AWS standard weld geometry, welding trade schools, technical training programs, fabrication shops, quality control departments, and welding inspectors or Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI). Whether you’re qualifying new welders or maintaining ongoing training programs, this test plate delivers dependable performance and professional results. Each unit includes one fully assembled 3/8” AWS D1.1 Weld Qualification Test Plate with a root gap set to the AWS D1.1 code requirement of 1/4". It features an oversized 2" wide by 1/4" thick backing plate to reduce deformity and warping during welding. The assembly consists of two A36 steel plates, each 1" thick. The plates are beveled to 22.5 degrees on both sides, forming a 45-degree V-groove when assembled. The backing plate measures 1/4" thick, 2" wide, and 8" long, and is welded in four spots to the 1/4" gapped test plates. We do not tack weld across the center of the backing strip, which is where a test sample is most commonly cut. This ensures your weld remains clean and accurately represents your skill and ability. The test plates are at least 4" wide by 6" tall and are beveled on both sides to 22.5 degrees. The backing strip is at least 2" wide by 8" long and is tack welded at the four corners to the test plates. The default root gap is 1/4".

Common questions about buying open-box and refurbished.

Why buy refurbished or open-box?
Refurbished and open-box products offer the same performance as new at a fraction of the price. You're already saving $2 on this listing. They've been inspected, tested, and are ready to use — the only difference is the price tag. Buying refurbished also reduces electronic waste, extending product life cycles and keeping functional devices out of landfills.
What's the difference between open-box and refurbished?
Open-box products are customer returns that have been inspected and confirmed functional. They may show little to no use — often the item was returned simply because the buyer changed their mind. Refurbished products have been professionally repaired or restored by technicians, tested to meet or exceed manufacturer specifications, and sometimes come with a warranty. Both are a smart alternative to buying new.
Why use OpenBoxFox?
Finding refurbished deals is time-consuming — you'd have to check Amazon Warehouse, Reebelo, Dyson Outlet, and others separately for Generic products. OpenBoxFox aggregates these listings in one place, so you can compare and find the best deal without the legwork. We update pricing daily so you always see current availability and real savings.
Is it safe to buy refurbished?
Yes. Products listed on OpenBoxFox come from established retailers like Amazon, Reebelo, and Dyson — not unknown third-party sellers. Each retailer has buyer protection policies, return windows, and in some cases warranties. You get the price advantage of used goods with the purchase security of a known retailer.
