Cheese deserves better than a butter knife. Anyone who has tried to cut an even slice off a block of aged cheddar with a kitchen knife knows the problem. The blade wedges, the block cracks, the last third crumbles, and what should have been a clean plate for guests turns into a pile of offcuts. A wire solves it. A wire passes straight through firm cheese without compressing it, which is why cheesemongers have used them for a century. The RADICALn Slice & Serve puts that wire on a board you can actually put on the table. Built as one piece, for two jobs. Most marble cheese slicers measure Length: 8 Inches. Width: 5 Inches Height: 0.75 Inch. Big enough to cut on, too small to serve on so the cheese comes off the cutting board and goes onto a serving board, and now you have two things to wash. The left third is a recessed cutting channel with a stainless steel lever arm. The remaining surface is polished flat with a shallow perimeter groove, sized to hold three or four cheeses with crackers and fruit around them. Cut, arrange, carry it out. The wire problem, solved properly. Every wire slicer eventually has the same failure: the wire stretches, goes slack, drags instead of cutting, and snaps. The industry's answer has been to put more spare wires in the box. We put a thumbscrew on it. When the wire goes slack, you turn the knurled stainless fitting and it's taut again. It takes about five seconds and no tools. When you eventually do need a fresh wire, there are six of them in a recessed cavity on the underside of the board not loose in the packaging where they get thrown out with the box. Why stone, and why it matters more than it sounds. Marble is naturally cool and non-porous. It won't take on moisture, grease or the smell of last week's blue cheese, and it holds cheese at temperature on the table for far longer than wood or steel. It's also heavy and that's the point. The board holds itself steady while you cut. If your hands aren't as strong as they used to be, this is the difference between a tool that fights you and one that doesn't. Every board is different, because every stone is. Ours are cut from natural stone and finished by hand by our artisans. The veining, the depth of colour, the way the light catches the surface — no two boards come out the same. Yours will be yours. How to look after it: Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Don't put it in the dishwasher the stone doesn't need it and the heat isn't good for natural stone.
