Refurbished Dyson Guide: Models, Grades, and Real Prices

Refurbished and open-box Dyson products averaged 24% off in July 2026, with standout deals much deeper, across vacuums, the Airwrap, Supersonic dryers, fans and lighting. Dyson gear holds its price unusually well when new, so certified secondhand is the realistic way to get one at a reasonable price.
Where discounted Dysons come from
- Dyson's own refurbished program sells machines returned to Dyson and restored by Dyson. Refurbished vacuums, fans and purifiers come with a 6-month warranty, and refurbished hair dryers and stylers with a one-year warranty. It's the option with the clearest coverage, since Dyson backs the repair itself.
- Amazon Warehouse sells open-box customer returns, graded but not repaired. This is where the deepest percentage cuts show up, because pricing is algorithmic and the grades price in cosmetics.
- Certified refurbished marketplaces sell tested units with marketplace warranties, usually in "Very Good" condition.
We track all of these in one place. In July 2026 that was 136 live US Dyson listings, from $14 (accessories) to $1,045. Examples from that month: Dyson Zone headphones at 77% off ($160), an Outsize Total Clean cordless vacuum at 46% off ($430), a V11 Torque Drive+ in "Refurbished – Very Good" at 35% off ($658), and a Special Edition Airwrap Complete Long at 36% off ($585).
What to check, by product line
| Line | The part that wears | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Cordless vacuums (V-series, Outsize) | Battery | Prefer refurbished (tested) over open-box. On arrival, run a full charge and check runtime in Boost mode. Batteries are replaceable (Dyson sells the V11/V15 click-in battery for $99.99), so factor that in when the discount is thin. |
| Airwrap and Supersonic | Attachments and filter | Count the attachments against the listed set, since completeness is most of the value. Check the filter cage for lint buildup on arrival. |
| Purifiers and fans | Filter life | Filters are consumables (about $45 to $80 from Dyson for most models), and an open-box unit may need one right away. Do the math: 25% off minus a new filter can come out ahead of, or behind, a smaller refurb discount with a fresh filter. |
| Corded vacuums and lighting | Almost nothing | Low-risk open-box buys. Check the cord and clips, and the discount is yours. |
Grade and warranty advice for Dyson
- For cordless vacuums, buy Dyson-refurbished with the 6-month warranty if you can. The battery is the part most likely to wear out, and the warranty covers it.
- Amazon Warehouse "Like New" or "Very Good" is good value for Airwraps, Supersonics, fans and corded machines, where a visual inspection really does cover the risk. You get Amazon's 30-day window (see the safety guide), and grade meanings are in the decoder.
- Skip "Acceptable" for anything with a battery or filter. The allowance for missing parts can eat the whole discount in replacement consumables.
If it doesn't have to be a Dyson, compare other brands in vacuums under $75 (CA$150 in Canada) and robot vacuums under $350 (Canada).
Frequently asked questions
Are refurbished Dysons any good?
Yes. Dyson machines are easy to service (batteries, filters and heads are replaceable), which is what makes a product refurbish well. Factory-refurbished units come with Dyson's own warranty and, for most people, perform the same as new.
How much should a refurbished Dyson cost?
The average discount in our July 2026 data was 24% off list, with open-box outliers reaching 45 to 77% on specific units. Under 15% off, buy new. Past 40%, read the grade and the list of included parts carefully.
Does Dyson's warranty transfer on open-box units?
Dyson's standard warranty is tied to the original purchase, so on an Amazon Warehouse unit, assume the return window is your protection. Dyson-refurbished units come with their own warranty: 6 months for vacuums, fans and purifiers, and one year for hair dryers and stylers.
