Three things the July data says
- Accessories are the discount kings; devices are the dollar kings. Cell phone accessories lead at 35% off but median just $11 — commodity cases and cables get slashed. Electronics average a lower 26% but the highest average dollar savings ($75/listing), because the items are worth more.
- Refurbished is where percentage and price meet. The refurb segment averages 31% off on ~$390 items — the biggest combined savings per purchase of anything in the data. If you buy one open-box thing this year, make it a certified-refurbished device.
- Canada is quietly the better market. 36% average discount versus 25% in the US. Smaller selection (63K listings), deeper cuts — Canadian readers should browse the CA catalog first.
Deal of the month
A MacBook Pro 16" (2021, Apple M1 Pro, high-spec configuration) in certified-refurbished condition for $1,909 against a $4,899 original list — 61% off, $2,990 saved — via Reebelo. One unit; deals like this typically survive a day or two, which is exactly why one-of-a-kind inventory rewards checking often.
Methodology
The Index is computed from the OpenBoxFox database — our continuous aggregation of open-box and refurbished listings from Amazon US & Canada, Reebelo, Newegg, and other partner retailers. This edition is a snapshot taken July 7, 2026, covering in-stock US listings only (Canada reported separately). We exclude listings with implausible pricing data (discounts above 90% or savings exceeding 9× the sale price) so the averages reflect deals a real shopper would see. "List price" is the manufacturer's or seller's stated original price; "discount" is the current sale price versus that list. Category assignment follows each listing's primary category. The underlying category table is versioned and reproducible; media inquiries and data questions: contact us.
