Amazon Warehouse sells open-box returns (inspected, graded, 30-day returns); Amazon Renewed sells certified refurbished items (tested, repaired if needed, 90-day guarantee). Warehouse usually wins on price and selection, and Renewed wins on protection and predictability for battery-powered devices. Which is better depends on what you're buying.
How the two programs differ
Both programs show up on Amazon product pages, which is why people mix them up, but the items come from different places:
- Warehouse (now "Amazon Resale") is Amazon's own outlet for customer returns. Amazon gives each unit a quality check, grades its condition and relists it. Nothing is refurbished: the grade prices in the condition, and Amazon's standard 30-day return policy covers the risk.
- Renewed is a marketplace program. Amazon-qualified suppliers, including manufacturers and specialist refurbishers, sell tested, restored products under Amazon's rules: diagnostic testing, batteries above 80% of original capacity (above 90% on Renewed Premium), no visible damage at 12 inches on the Excellent grade, and the 90-day Renewed Guarantee on most items.

Which should you pick?
- For phones, tablets and laptops, pick Renewed (or another certified-refurb source). You want the battery floor, the testing and the 90-day guarantee. The price gap against a Warehouse "Very Good" unit is usually small, and the protection gap is large. - For the biggest discount, look at Warehouse's lower grades. "Good" and "Acceptable" units usually go deeper than anything on Renewed, so learn the grade definitions before you commit.
- For a gift, choose Renewed Premium or Warehouse Like New. Both look essentially new, and Premium adds a one-year guarantee.
Why the percentages mislead
The two programs discount different goods, so their percentages aren't directly comparable. In our July 2026 data, open-box and used inventory averaged 25% off at an average price of about $50, while refurbished inventory averaged 31% off at an average price of about $390. A refurbished purchase saves far more in dollars, while Warehouse gives you more frequent small savings. Using both, Warehouse for everyday goods and refurbished for devices, gets you the most.

Is Warehouse cheaper than Renewed?
For the same product in comparable condition, usually yes, by a modest margin, since Renewed charges for testing and the longer guarantee. On lower Warehouse grades the gap widens a lot.

Warehouse items ship from Amazon fulfillment with Prime. Renewed items usually do as well, but they're marketplace listings, so check the shipping line on the specific offer.
